...But I'm about ready to put down only the third book in my life that I've started and just haven't read through...it's a terrible feeling...it's supposed to be a good book, but it's style (second person no less!) is just wearing me down...and I keep waiting for something to happen...but 400 pages into Michael Faber's The Crimson Petal and the White has just about driven me mad...
Is that wrong?

It's not wrong, Jax. Four hundred pages is plenty of space for most novels to start and end a story. You shouldn't have to read through that much just to see if something happens.
But then, you knew that, and were simply looking for confirmation. Carry on.

The Reader in me always feels like a traitor if I don't finish what I start...thus I've read some really bad books in my day and I suppose it does say something that I can't finish a book...
Have any of you even heard of this "bestseller"?

I haven't heard of that book, but there were a few books I've started and ended up putting it down halfway thruough, among them was "Moby Dick." I have no clue as to why they called it a classic but I could stand the movie though...

For me, I couldn't get thru Anne Rices Interview with a Vampire. I love the vampire genre, but her books use too much descriptive prose and I like story and messy emotions in my books. Give me good enough characters and I can even sometimes overlook the plot, but describe the scenary to me for pages and I am out of there!
I liked the movie tho.

The Vampire Lestat was a way better book. I totally agree with you on the description thing.
Don't feel bad, Jax. I just read Sense and Sensibility, and it was truly awful, which sucked, because I liked Pride and Prejudice so much. But they're both supposed to be classics, and I can't figure out why.

Well, when you consider how few writers there were back then...

Wanna hear something else scary: One of the other two books I couldn't get through because it bored me so much? Tolkien's Fellowship of the Ring...
Runs for cover...
